Car Insurance

Car insurance is legally required in Malaysia. Due to the much higher accident rate compared to Japan, car insurance is essential. Please note that in Malaysia, you need separate passenger injury insurance to cover injuries or death of passengers.
This insurance covers personal injury to others (third-party liability), damage to others’ property such as vehicles or fences (property damage), and damage to your own insured vehicle in an accident (vehicle damage).
Here are some available optional coverage riders:
- Passenger liability rider covering death or injury to passengers
- CART rider covering rental car costs during vehicle repairs
- Windscreen coverage rider

While Japan has passenger injury coverage as a rider to car insurance, Malaysian law prohibits attaching passenger injury insurance as a rider to vehicle insurance. You need to purchase separate Passenger Personal Accident insurance.
